Curly Maple Bowie

Posted on April 1, 2005December 10, 2019

This Bowie knife is handled in curly maple with ATS-34 steel.

The blade length is 7″, blade width is 1 1/2″ and it is 5/32″ thick. The handle is 5 3/4″ long from guard to the very end. The overall length is 12 3/4″. The grind is fully flat and mirrored. 416ss with black spacers flank the handle. The rear butt plate is flat and mirrored. The 416ss guard is mirrored and has rope file work all around. Heat treat is by Paul Bos.

This piece of curly maple has some very nice figure and depth. It took a full month of daily sanding and applying a tung oil finish to get it nice and smooth.

This is right hand cross draw sheath made by Sandy Morrissey.

You can see the rear butt plate here is mirrored and dead flat.

I had Sandy make two sheaths for this knife so I could keep one for a study piece. You have choice of the sheaths. The top sheath is a right hand cross draw. Pretty cool. I looked good wearing it around the house today. The bottom sheath is more traditional with a keeper strap.
